If you have finished high school and hold no qualification, you meet the requirements for neither 「介護」 nor 「特定技能1号」 in the care field. 「技術・人文知識・国際業務」 is also difficult, because it needs a university degree or at least 10 years of practical experience. What may be possible is 「特定技能1号」 after passing the tests. Taking on other work purely in order to stay can make you subject to 退去強制 (deportation).
An enquiry from someone whose working holiday is about to expire and who wants to work in care.
At present this is difficult. You need either the right education or the national qualification.
As a rule, 在留資格「介護」 requires that you have completed a 介護福祉士 training course at a vocational school or university in Japan, or that you hold the Japanese national 介護福祉士 qualification. If you have finished high school only, you do not meet this requirement.
「特定技能1号」 in the care field requires passing the 介護技能評価試験 (Nursing Care Skills Evaluation Test) and the 日本語能力試験 (Japanese-Language Proficiency Test) at N4 or above. As you hold no qualification at present, this does not apply to you.
This is also difficult. You meet neither the educational nor the work-experience requirement.
As a rule, 「技術・人文知識・国際業務」 requires a university degree in a field related to the work you will do, or at least 10 years of practical experience. If you have finished high school and have less than 10 years of practical experience in marketing, it will be difficult to meet the requirement.
「特定技能1号」, after passing the tests. There is no educational requirement.
For 「特定技能1号」 a skills evaluation test is set for each field, and if you pass you may be able to obtain it. Unlike 「介護」, there is no educational requirement. There is, however, a requirement on Japanese-language ability, such as 日本語能力試験 N4 or above.
The evaluation test may be held only a few times a year. Working back from the expiration date of your period of stay, please check the test schedule straight away. Also, for a 「特定技能」 application, the employing company too has to meet requirements on working conditions and labour management. Please check as well whether the company is set up to support the application properly.
Please avoid this at all costs. It can make you subject to 退去強制.
Doing anything other than the activities permitted under your status of residence amounts to 資格外活動違反, a breach by engaging in activity other than that permitted under the status of residence. For example, if you work under 「特定技能」 in a particular field, as a rule you cannot take on work of a different kind.
If the breach comes to light, not only may future extensions and changes be denied, but you may also become subject to 退去強制. Being drawn into it without meaning to can also have a fatal effect on your stay in Japan.
It is not always easy for an employee to raise this with the company. If you are worried, please consult the certified administrative procedures legal specialist (gyoseishoshi) at this site. We can also help explain the position to the company.
